 Job Summary

The Department of Public Affairs and Planning (PAPL) in the College of Architecture, Planning and Public Affairs (CAPPA) at the University of Texas at Arlington (UTA) invites applications for a tenure-track/tenured position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor of Urban Planning to begin Fall 2022.

We seek to recruit a candidate that represents the diverse populations that UTA serves and who has a research focus in one or more of the following areas: urban design & sustainable development, smart & resilient cities, economic development, and environmental planning. The successful candidate should have a demonstrated research agenda that will contribute to the furtherance of UTA’s Strategic Plan, specifically to its Sustainable Urban Communities theme (https://www.uta.edu/strategicplan/plan/themes/communities.php).

Requirements

Required qualifications

Applicants must have a Ph.D. in planning or a closely related field by May 2022.

Successful applicants to the Associate Professor position must demonstrate a strong research record through publishing and grantsmanship and excellence in teaching; to the Assistant Professor position, excellence in teaching and demonstrated potential to establish a strong research and publishing agenda. Candidates should have a strong commitment to transdisciplinary approaches to challenging urban issues and to advancing our commitment to diversity and inclusion.

Preferred qualifications

Research or teaching interests related to social justice and issues of intersectionality in planning would be a strong asset.  We are also open to candidates with a domestic and/or international planning research agenda.

AICP certification and experience in professional planning and community outreach and service are also welcomed qualifications. As the Planning program is in a department with Public Affairs and shares many courses and dissertation committees, experience and interest in public administration and public policy are desirable but not required.
